The Death Penalty Information Center reports that there are around 2,250 prisoners currently facing execution in the United States, with 117 in Ohio. Many proponents of the death penalty say that it is a crime deterrent that leads to a safer society and offers closure to the families of murder victims. However, a significant portion of the population, including many who lost loved ones to murder, are disputing such claims and are demanding the state to kill no one in their names. Does the death penalty help victim families and society, or is it an expensive, agonizing, and immoral tool of revenge and anger? The presenter of this forum, the brother of a murder victim, will share his perspective that the death penalty offers false promises.
