Sacred Spaces, Safe Spaces: Bridging Faith and Mental Health is an interactive workshop designed to help faith leaders, laypersons, chaplains, and community organizers support individuals facing mental health and addiction challenges. Grounded in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI), this session will equip participants with skills to validate emotions while encouraging meaningful change, navigate difficult conversations with empathy, and recognize when professional intervention is necessary. Through role-playing exercises and real-world case studies, attendees will practice distress tolerance strategies, strengthen their ability to support those in crisis, and learn how to guide individuals toward professional care while maintaining a safe and compassionate faith-based environment.
This workshop is made possible by a generous grant from the McCullough-Hyde Foundation and the Interfaith Center's "Building Healthy Communities: Strategies and Resources for Faith Communities" project.
